Title: Conference on the Barred Owl by François Morneau, biologist

Description: François Morneau is a retired and active biologist. After a long career devoted to in-depth studies on various groups of birds, particularly birds of prey, retirement led him to focus on the study of the Barred Owl’s breeding. Following a brief presentation of the specie, we will learn about the study he is currently conducting in Mont Saint-Bruno Park.

Location: Salle Pauline-Martel, Gabrielle Giroux-Bertrand Library (608, du Sud Street, Cowansville, John street entrance).

Time: 7:00 p.m. Carpooling is preferred for conferences and is organized on an ad hoc basis.

Title: Birdwatching around Cowansville

Description: Change: Instead of going to the Jardin botanique, we will go birdwatching north and east of Cowansville, especially on the Granby side where there have been interesting sightings over the past 10 days: Sharp-shinned Hawk, Kingfisher, Robin, Cowbird, Wood Duck, Great Blue Heron.

Day and date: Week of 9 March 2020

Title: Boreal Adventure!

Description: ACTIVITY CANCELED; CARRY-OVER TO NEXT YEAR. We will travel from Cowansville to Chibougamau via Dolbeau to see Ptarmigan, Northern passerines, such as the Boreal Chickadee, Gray Jay, true finches, and possibly several raptors. The observation will be done along roadsides and by walking on snow-cleared roads. We will take the Mauricie road to stop at Dolbeau in Lac St-Jean, and stay in a good hotel. The next day, we will make a round trip to Lake Mistassini.

Pre-registration and carpooling required: the excursion will not take place without a minimum of 4 participants.

Cost: The approximate price would be around $300 per participant including transportation, lodging and meals.

Description: (Previous activity canceled) Description of new activity: Change of course! We will go see the ducks, Snow Geese and Killdeer that have arrived on the Richelieu River near the border. We will head towards Rang Barbotte (Road), Lacolle, going by Venise-en-Québec and Noyan. Bring your lunch.

Duration: All day. Return mid-afternoon.

Title: OUTING CANCELED. Observations on the Haut-Richelieu River

Description: COVID-19  obliges, this activity is canceled. The first waterfowl gatherings occur on the Richelieu River and the surrounding lands at Henryville and Noyan. This is also a good time to observe raptors and the first returning passerines.

Duration: All day, dinner at the restaurant.
